Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is among those who haven’t been shy about questioning Jerry Jones’ choice of Brian Schottenheimer to replace Mike McCarthy.
Irvin’s passionate reaction suggests he had a very different vision for the future.
“I hope to pray I am wrong. I hope I’m wrong, but I got too many championships to believe I’m wrong. … This was the time to take that leap, step a little bit farther, and make that Deion (Sanders) hire, if you were going in this direction, that I was disappointed with,” Irvin said on “Speak.”

The Cowboys’ continued playoff struggles weigh heavily on Irvin’s mind.

In his view, Sanders could have been the perfect choice to bridge this generational gap, thanks to his ability to connect with younger fans.
Drawing a stark business parallel, Irvin compares the Cowboys’ decision to Blockbuster’s failure to adapt and innovate.
He sees the choice to promote from within as a missed opportunity for real change.
What troubles him most is how Schottenheimer might struggle to command respect and enforce accountability, given his existing relationships with players as an assistant coach.
