Things have gotten quiet in the NBA lately but that doesn’t mean that the big offseason moves are done.
Apparently, the Dallas Mavericks are still hoping to land a coveted big man.
And they might do it via a three-team trade.
According to Marc Stein, via Noah Weber, the Mavericks are “rooting for Atlanta to win the trade race for Toronto’s [Pascal] Siakam.”
This is because they are hoping that deal will lead to them getting Clint Capela.
"You can safely presume that the Dallas Mavericks are rooting for Atlanta to win the trade race for Toronto's Siakam … and that they’re also hoping such a trade features Hawks center Clint Capela," per @TheSteinLine. 👀#MFFL

The Mavericks are apparently playing quite a game of four-dimensional chess.
They hope that the Raptors agree to send Siakam down to the Hawks in exchange for Capela.
If that occurs, the Raptors will have little reason to hold onto Capela, especially since they just re-signed Jakob Poeltl.
That is when the Mavericks plan to jump into the mix and get their hands on Capela’s contract.
This would really round out Dallas in a big way.
They have made a few moves during the offseason, most notably re-signing Kyrie Irving and landing Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics.
They have their fair share of talented shooters but they are still painfully lacking in size.
The 6-foot-9 Capela is a two-time All-Star and the 2018-19 Most Improved Player of the Year.
He would go a long way to fixing one of Dallas’ biggest problems.
Acquiring him would be a smart move by the Mavericks.
However, what happens if Siakam doesn’t go down to Atlanta?
Are the Mavericks putting all of their hopes in this one scenario that they dreamed up?
While landing Capela via this three-team trade would be great for Dallas, hopefully, they have other options available to them too.
