The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers just completed one of the most shocking trades in NBA history.
It might even go down as one of the most controversial transactions in any professional sport.
The deal is finally official, as the Mavericks’ PR team just announced it on social media.
The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they acquired 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, guard Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for guard Luka Dončić, forward/center Maxi Kleber and forward/center Markieff Morris.

A report by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin suggests that the Mavericks were uncertain about Doncic’s work ethic, as well as his ongoing conditioning and weight issues.
Brian Windhorst added that the Mavericks didn’t tip their hand or reach out to other teams about a potential trade.
Instead, they just asked the Lakers to trade them Anthony Davis.
It seems like the Mavs could have received a much more valuable trade package in exchange for their franchise player.
Granted, Davis is a future Hall of Famer and one of the best two-way players of all time, but he’s six years older, and the Mavericks were fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals with Doncic at the helm.
Some people believe there’s way more to this story than what’s being told right now, especially considering that this swift move reportedly blindsided Doncic, LeBron James, and Davis.
Ultimately, this trade will be among the most discussed and analyzed we’ve ever seen.
It’s still way too early to determine the winners and losers of this transaction.
However, for now, it’s difficult to believe the Mavs have improved for both the present and the future.
