The 2023 NFL offseason hasn’t been the kindest to Matt Corral, specifically in regards to his role on the Carolina Panthers.
After the Panthers selected Bryce Young No. 1 overall in the draft, Corral was almost assuredly relegated to a backup role.
The selection of Young came just one season after the team took Corral in the third round.
Corral didn’t appear to be initially thrilled with this draft pick but has recently made his feelings clear on the situation.
In a press conference, Corral said, “It’s the business, that’s something that those guys make.”

That “something” is in reference to the organization trading up to take Young.
The Panthers organization hasn’t been filled with this much excitement about a quarterback since Cam Newton was drafted.
The fanbase has embraced Young, seemingly throwing players like Corral to the wayside.
However, Corral isn’t in a position to give up and is determined to compete for the starting role in this offense.
“I don’t want to get traded,” Corral said, and later, “I love the people I am around, I want to play for coach Reich.”
Frank Reich will enter his first year as the head coach of the Panthers this season.
Reich was the first-ever quarterback of the Panthers, and will now have a unique opportunity to be the team’s head coach.
It appears that he has made a Dan Campbell-level cultural impact on this team, who look to make massive improvements in his first season.
How will the Panthers fare in 2023, knowing they have a rookie quarterback at the helm?
