Marwin Gonzalez Did His Best To Fool The Astros

Marwin Gonzalez had his best seasons with a Houston Astros uniform.

In fact, he was a part of that 2017 team that used technology to steal signs and that won a World Series that year.

It was his best season: he hit .303/.377/.530 with 23 home runs and 90 RBI.

However, he is now with the New York Yankees, and his job is doing everything he can to help his team win as long as it isn’t against the rules.

On Thursday, during the first game of the doubleheader between the top two teams in the American League, we saw some tricks by the clever player.

This picture speaks louder than a thousand words.

“Now that is some funny gamesmanship from Marwin González,” MLB’s Mike Petriello tweeted.

Gonzalez Tried To Trick The Astros Defense

Now, the Astros surely didn’t like it, but again, it’s not Gonzalez’s job to tell them where the ball is, and if he can make them think it is some place else, he can win a few seconds for his team’s baserunners to take an extra base.

The Astros ended up winning the game when J.J. Matijevic hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Gonzalez, however, tried to do everything in his power to gift the win for his team, unsuccessfully.

The 2022 season has seen him hit a modest .234/.301/.378, but he does have three homers and can play a number of positions around the field.

That makes him a valuable piece in any championship-caliber club.

He will need to keep performing to maintain his spot on the roster, though, as the Yanks are expected to be active in trade talks before August 2.
