The Miami Marlins are one of many teams who appear to be in on free agent outfielder Nick Castellanos.
Castellanos put up MVP numbers last year for the Cincinnati Reds, hitting 34 home runs and batting .309 on the year.
He opted out of his four-year deal with the Reds to become a free agent.
According to MLB Network analyst Jon Heyman, the Marlins were one of Castellanos’ many suitors prior to the institution of the lockout and prior to Derek Jeter stepping down from his position as CEO of the team.
The Marlins still appear to be in on the star outfielder.
Marlins are another team in on Nick Castellanos. The Davie, Fla. product was being pursued before the lockout by Derek Jeter, and his replacements are still at it.

Why Castellanos?
The Marlins don’t have much to play for in 2022.
They still are not in a position to win, which is one of the many reasons why Jeter left his role.
Jeter had a vision of a winning Marlins team, which is why he had eyes on Castellanos, but the Marlins do not appear as if they are trying to win, so it’s puzzling as to why they would make Castellanos a priority given their recent track record as an organization.
But it does appear that Jeter’s replacements want to keep trying to bring the slugger to Miami.
After all, he would be a good starting point if they plan on building a winning team anytime soon.
He would fit in perfectly as a DH, given that he is a below average defender in the outfield.
But having his bat in the lineup would at the very least give fans a reason to go to Marlins Park.
Marlins fans haven’t had much to look forward to in a while.
Not that they would with Castellanos in Miami, but it would at least be a nice change of pace.
