Drake Maye’s Week 6 performance has captured attention across the NFL as the New England Patriots establish themselves as legitimate playoff contenders.
The team sits at 4-2 after six weeks, sharing the top spot in the AFC East. That level of success had not been reached since 2019, Tom Brady’s final season in Foxborough.
Now in his second year, Maye is beginning to define his role within the franchise and prove his value as the quarterback of the future.
Former NFL player Mark Schlereth recently shared his assessment of Maye’s development during an appearance on WEEI Afternoons.
“I thought he was amazing, and it was really cool. Then I thought to myself, ‘Man, I wish our quarterbacks here in Denver looked like that right now.’ And I’m sure there are a lot of teams out there saying, ‘I wish our quarterback looked like that right now.’ I love Bo Nix—I think he’s a really good player—but Drake Maye has played exceptionally well. A lot of fun to watch,” Schlereth said.

The Patriots’ 25-19 victory over the Saints in New Orleans has emerged as the centerpiece of their recent revival.
Maye completed 18 of 26 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over.
He opened the game with a career-long 53-yard touchdown to DeMario Douglas and later connected with Kayshon Boutte in the end zone.
Maye finished with a perfect passer rating of 140.1, the highest among Week 6 quarterbacks.
He also added 28 rushing yards on nine carries, showcasing his dual-threat ability in critical moments.
Though Maye took over as a starter last season, this year marks his undeniable leap forward.
Under new head coach Mike Vrabel, the Patriots look revitalized on both the sidelines and the field.
Vrabel’s guidance has tightened discipline and built a confident environment that complements Maye’s leadership.
The offensive approach has elevated alongside that structure, creating a balanced attack that opponents are struggling to contain.
