Outfielder Mark Canha was one of the New York Mets’ acquisitions for the 2022 season.
They signed him to a two-year, $26.5 million deal that included a $11.5 million option for 2024.
Canha, who will be 34 when he takes the field next year, didn’t show too much power, with 13 home runs last season.
However, his decent average and excellent on-base skills made him an asset for the Mets.
While talking with SNY, he essentially said the Mets made him love baseball again, which is a cool story.
“Mark Canha loved playing in New York with the Mets, and hopes to remain here for a long time: ‘It was everything I could’ve hoped for and more, it was amazing. It’s kind of revitalized my passion for the game, actually,'” SNY tweeted, quoting the talented Mets outfielder.

Canha still has one year left on his deal, and then the team will have to decide whether to pick up his option for 2024 or not based on his performance next year.
He Loved His Time With The Mets
The player clearly loved his new team and would like to remain in New York for a long time.
The on-field results were positive.
In 140 games and 542 plate appearances, he slashed .266/.367/.403 with a 128 wRC+ (league average is 100, so he was comfortably above that mark) and 2.8 Wins Above Replacement, or WAR.
He hit 24 doubles, scored 71 runs, and drove in 61 for the Mets.
In a year in which his team suffered several injuries, he remained mostly healthy and was a consistent, if unspectacular source of production.
If he can replicate what he did this year in the 2023 season, the Mets will surely be interested in exercising his club option for 2024.
Age could become a factor at one point, though.
