Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is having the best season of his career.
He’s scoring more than ever before, playing ball at an MVP level, and is quite literally breaking records for this team.
He is doing so well that most people agree that he is the future of the league, alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Ja Morant, and others.
Some people have said that Doncic’s incredible scoring prowess means he could someday surpass LeBron James as the all-time NBA scoring champion.
As everyone knows, James is just weeks away from beating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s long-standing record for the most points in league history – but will Doncic be the one to overtake James someday?

Doncic isn’t so sure.
When asked about his future within the NBA and the possibility of him becoming the all-time scoring king at some point, Doncic made it clear that he’s focused on other things.
“I don’t know about 20 years,” Doncic said.
He added, “That’s a long time to play basketball. I’d rather go back to my farm in Slovenia.”
He’s not wrong: 20 years in the league is a very long time and it’s rare to see a player stay in the NBA as James has.
Doncic is 23 years old and has been playing for 4 years, which means he definitely does have a long future ahead of him in the association.
But doing anything for 20 years is challenging, especially something as physically and mentally punishing as playing professional basketball.
Most analysts agree that Doncic would have a strong chance of someday beating James’ record if he can stay healthy for a couple of decades and resist the urge of returning to his homeland.
