The Los Angeles Lakers may have lost to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, but that played a backseat to the history that LeBron James made.
James became the first player in NBA history to score 40,000 points in the regular season, a feat the Crypto.com Arena crowd was eagerly waiting for.
James came into the night only needing nine points and he did so in the second quarter when he drove into the lane and finished with one of his patented layups.
L.A. losing to Denver for the eighth consecutive time has to sting, but fans at least got to witness James making more history in a Lakers uniform.
Some would argue that James’ best skill is his passing and playmaking, but he’s also proven to be one of the greatest scorers ever.
The Lakers commemorated the milestone with an iconic picture featuring James’ first point and his 40,000th, via the team’s official Twitter account.

The first picture shows James rising up for a jump shot with the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Sacramento Kings, while the second photo is of the layup against the Nuggets.
It’s absurd that James has been able to play this well this late into his career and is single-handedly proving that today’s players can extend their careers with the proper rest and recovery.
As the sole member of the 40,000-point club, James is well-positioned to add to the number and make it unreachable for future players.
With how well he’s playing, James could very well hit 45,000 or more points.
