Some fans of the Washington Wizards weren’t sure what they were getting with Kristaps Porzingis when he was traded to the team last season.
Was he going to be the “unicorn” player he was for a while with the New York Knicks?
Or would he be the troubled, injured player who was usually lacking for the Dallas Mavericks?
For a moment, it seemed like he’d be a bit of both for the Wizards.
Yet, so far this season, he’s only showing greatness.

Porzingis has now scored 20+ points in four of his last five games.
The season is still very young, of course, but Porzingis is playing better than he has in some time and it’s leading some to think that his best season is ahead of him.
Porzingod Is Back
When Porzingis was winning the hearts and minds of New York Knicks fans back in 2017-2018, he was averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
So far in 2022-23, he’s putting up 21 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
Does this mean he’s about to be playing better than he was in the Big Apple?
Porzingis has always had problems with injuries and energy but that doesn’t seem to be the case this year.
In fact, he is looking a few years younger and much healthier than he has in some time.
The big question now is how far the Wizards can go.
Most people had counted them out when the season started but Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, and Porzingis are trying to convince their long-suffering fanbase that there is reason to believe in them.
Porzingis needs to stay healthy and he needs to keep playing as he has been.
If he does, he will be celebrated in Washington just as he was in New York.
