The 2024 NFL season unfolded as disastrously as possible for the New Orleans Saints, who ended with a 5-12 record, tying for last place in the NFC South alongside the Carolina Panthers.
The Saints have an old and expensive roster that clearly needs a rebuild.
Ownership got the ball rolling midseason by firing former head coach Dennis Allen.
Allen was subpar at best as New Orleans’s head coach, and now the organization will use the next few weeks to find a replacement.
Big-name candidates like Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn have already signed with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, respectively, though some highly sought-after names remain available.
For instance, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury remains available and is reportedly set to interview with the New Orleans team, according to Nick Underhill of New Orleans.Football.
“Giants OC Mike Kafka is interviewing in person with the Saints today. Mike McCarthy, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore and potentially Kliff Kingsbury are expected to interview next week,” Underhill reported.

In his first year back in the NFL, Kingsbury transformed the Commanders’ offense, and he did it with a superstar rookie in Jayden Daniels.
While the Saints don’t have a prospect like Daniels on their roster, they’ve got intriguing young pieces to work with that could appeal to Kingsbury.
However, the timing may be off for New Orleans if Washington beats the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
Still, Kingsbury is a worthwhile name to keep tabs on.
