The New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys are the only two NFL teams still looking for a new head coach after the Las Vegas Raiders hired Pete Carroll and the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Liam Coen recently.
As the search goes on, ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently shared updates on the Saints’ current plans and the candidates still being considered for the team’s next coach.
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday morning, Schefter noted that there are still a lot of guys in the mix for the team’s head coaching gig before floating former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy as an option, but noting “there are some other guys that they’re still interested in.”

I think Mike McCarthy would make sense there but I think there's some other guys that they're still interested in" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/We7658xfhd

Carroll, Ben Johnson, and Mike Vrabel were among the biggest names on the market, and McCarthy now only has one potential landing spot left if he’s going to be a head coach in 2025.
The Saints have no urgency to hire McCarthy since he is now their only option, so it makes sense for them to keep searching as the market has severely narrowed to just two remaining destinations.
The Saints fired Dennis Allen after a disastrous season and find themselves in a challenging position, especially with a quarterback in Derek Carr who has failed to win over fans in recent years.
Additionally, they face a bloated salary cap situation.
We’ll see if McCarthy is the answer or if another name surfaces in the coming days.
