The Philadelphia 76ers just received good and bad news about one of their most exciting stars.
The team announced that Jared McCain underwent a successful surgery to repair a UCL tear in his right thumb.
McCain is expected to fully heal, but he will be out of commission for four to six weeks, which is a big blow to the Sixers and their early-season plans.
The Sixers announced early this morning that Jared McCain had successful surgery to repair a UCL tear in his right thumb on Tuesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The 76ers are desperate to do much better in the new year.
They achieved a dismal 24-58 record in 2024-25, mostly because of many injuries that decimated the roster.
McCain was one of the many who got hurt last year, and this summer dealt him another blow.
Last season, he was a Rookie of the Year frontrunner and averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 46.0 percent from the field.
As the rest of the team fell apart around him, McCain became a brighter star in Philadelphia.
But then he suffered a season-ending torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, which required surgery in December.
In many ways, the new season will be like a rookie campaign for McCain, and he is looking to make an impact.
But he will not be able to do that on Opening Night, although fans hope he is back soon after.
Some people are wondering if this news about McCain will affect the team’s outlook on contract negotiations with Quentin Grimes.
The two sides are apparently very far apart, but maybe the official loss of McCain will soften the situation.
