Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Likewise, he hasn’t truly established himself anywhere after he left the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He became an icon and an idol there, but some fans never forgave him for leaving town to join the hottest team in the league.
Durant hasn’t spent a lot of time anywhere else from that moment.
So, even though he’s a future first-ballot Hall of Famer for sure, he doesn’t think he’ll ever get a statue.
Talking to Kay Adams for her “Up & Adams” show, the Phoenix Suns star dismissed the idea of potentially getting a statue, claiming that those are reserved for the guys who have a Hall of Fame-caliber career, win championships, and spend a lot of time playing for one team.
.@KDTrey5 on Kay and D-Wade saying he deserves his own statue one day…
"I highly highly doubt I get a statue of me put anywhere for playing basketball… It's usually those guys that got the HOF career, with championships, you been with one city for a long time. That's not… pic.twitter.com/QcyOZf3TZl

That makes sense, and as harsh as it may seem, that’s probably true in his case as well.
Unless he stays in Phoenix for a long time and leads him to a championship, chances are he’s not going to get a statue there.
The Golden State Warriors could and should retire his jersey, and the Thunder will most likely do it as well.
But as of now, his most substantial chance of getting a statue lies in Oklahoma.
That doesn’t mean he’s not one of the greatest players to ever do it, though; that shouldn’t even be up for a debate.
