After a disappointing stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, in which he still was able to add two Super Bowl rings to his trophy case, wide receiver Kadrius Toney was cut by the defending champions before the 2024 NFL season got underway, which was a move many anticipated with the team adding Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown and bringing back veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Once Toney officially became a free agent, there was no telling what his immediate future in the NFL would be, as it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him not playing during the 2024 NFL season with no teams willing to bring him in.
Although Toney’s prospects looked bleak, and there was no telling if another team would come calling, it appears the Cleveland Browns were willing to take a chance on the 25-year-old wide receiver from Mobile, Alabama.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are signing the former Chiefs wide receiver to their practice squad.

With the Browns fairly stacked at the wide receiver position with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore, Toney getting elevated to the active squad during the regular season may be a stretch unless there’s an injury.
However, that was probably the Browns’ plan with Toney, viewing him as an insurance policy at wide receiver, with Jeudy and Cooper having issues with injuries over the years and Cleveland not having much luck keeping star players on offense healthy in recent years.
It’ll be interesting to see if Toney eventually gets on the field for the Browns and whether he can make an impact in Cleveland if he does.
