The New York Yankees were in desperate need of a victory last night, and Josh Donaldson may have saved their season.
Down 7-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning and three outs away from being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yanks loaded the bases for Donaldson, who connected on a pitch from Rays left-hander Jalen Beeks, sending it over the wall for a walk-off grand slam.
While the Yankees have still lost five consecutive series, Donaldson may have sparked a little momentum, and with his grand slam, he joined a list of Yankees legends who had hit walk-off grand slams with the Yanks down by three runs, those legends being Babe Ruth and Jason Giambi.

Donaldson Makes History
Not only did Donaldson potentially spark a little momentum for the Yankees, but he joined an exclusive list of Yankee legends.
Every child dreams of hitting a walk-off grand slam with the team down by three runs.
Donaldson got to live out that dream last night.
To be a part of a list that includes Ruth and Giambi is an impressive accomplishment.
And Donaldson’s grand slam was special because it may have just saved the Yankees season.
This is a team that has been derailed by some injuries and was watching their lead in the American League East shrink just a bit.
After having the best record in baseball for much of the season, the Yankees were on a slide and had lost their hold on that spot.
But Donaldson saved the day and joined a list of Yankee legends in the process.
We’ll see if that ends up providing the spark that the Yankees need in order to get going again.
