Jaylen Brown is a four-time All-Star, Eastern Conference Finals MVP, and Finals MVP.
On Wednesday, he reminded everyone why he has won so many honors.
Brown posted 36 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists against the Orlando Magic in Game 2 of the opening round.
Following the team’s 109-100 win over Orlando, head coach Joe Mazzulla talked with ESPN about Brown’s mindset and the way he led the team.
“At the end of the day, he’s willing to do whatever it takes for us to win,” Mazzulla said. “And he didn’t come in saying he had to get 36 and 10. He came in and said, ‘I’m going to do whatever it takes to win.’ And that’s what he told me yesterday. That’s just the mindset that he has.”
Brown entered the game knowing that more pressure would be on his shoulders because the Celtics were without the injured Jayson Tatum.
He didn’t have a problem stepping up and being even more of a hero for Boston.
Brown added that he is always willing to “go to war” for Boston and will fight as hard as he can, no matter the opponent and no matter who is playing with him.
This was an aggressive and physical game from the Celtics, which is exactly what they need in order to remind people why they’re the reigning champions of the league.
They aren’t just about shooting three-pointers, they are also looking for a fight.
Brown might not be the loudest or flashiest NBA star, but he’s definitely one of the best, and his Wednesday night performance is proof of that.
The Celtics now hold a 2-0 lead over the Magic and are ready to take this battle back to Orlando.
Even when Tatum returns, people should continue to expect big games from Brown.
