The San Antonio Spurs caught a massive break on Tuesday night.
They got the No. 1 pick, and just like their tradition states, they’re more than likely to use it to get a generational big man.
The Spurs officially won the Victor Wembanayma sweepstakes, and he’ll look to join David Robinson and Tim Duncan in a shortlist of legendary centers in San Antonio.
And according to former NBA player JJ Redick, he couldn’t have asked for a better situation to make his transition to the NBA.

Redick stated that the Spurs had put together a young and promising core with Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Tre Jones, and Jeremy Sochan and pointed out their history of player development.
Redick also believes that having Gregg Popovich and also Brett Brown could play a huge role in his transition to the NBA.
Moreover, he stated that Wembanyama got the opportunity to be the No. 1 scoring option on a professional team in Europe before taking his talents to the NBA, which isn’t something usual for prospects arriving in the U.S. from overseas.
Wembanyama has turned a lot of heads since playing on France’s youth teams, and he’s never ceased to amaze ever since.
His physical tools and how he’s able to take the ball up the court and knock down shots from all three levels make him a unique prospect.
He can get his own offensive rebound and finish with a put-back dunk after missing a step-back three, and then swat shots into the stands on the other end of the floor.
Pop did it again.
