The San Francisco 49ers lost a close game to the Denver Broncos.
But while it was a neck-to-neck battle, the game wasn’t exciting because the two teams combined for 21 points.
The Broncos carved out an 11-10 win to get their second victory in three games.
In contrast, the 49ers fell to 1-2.
Jimmy Garoppolo finished with 18 completions for 211 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
However, the game will be immortalized with him going out of bounds for a Broncos safety.
That blunder cost covered the points Denver needed to secure the win.
But the veteran quarterback defended his performance against the Broncos.
Garoppolo: “It was my first week with these guys, we’ve got to get in a rhythm. Re-acclimation period… I’m not trying to make excuses, but I’ve just got to get in game shape and get rolling now… We had a good rhythm last year. We just have to get back to that. We’ll get there.”

Garoppolo Getting Back In Shape
The Athletic’s David Lombardi shared what the former Eastern Illinois standout said.
Garoppolo explained, “It was my first week with these guys. We’ve got to get in a rhythm. Re-acclimation period… I’m not trying to make excuses, but I’ve just got to get in game shape and get rolling now… We had a good rhythm last year. We just have to get back to that. We’ll get there.”
Garoppolo took over as starting quarterback after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending injury.
The 49ers went to the NFC Championship Game last season with him as their starter.
However, his off-season shoulder surgery decreased his draft stock.
He could have been playing with the Washington Commanders if that operation did not happen.
Instead, the 49ers retained him by restructuring his 2022 base salary from $24 million to $6.5 million.
Likewise, they gave him incentives that could earn him an additional $11.4 million.
In that case, the 49ers’ Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams will be the true measure of Garoppolo’s readiness as the 49ers’ starter.
