The New York Jets are happy with their 2-2 record to start the 2022 NFL season.
After all, that slate puts them halfway to last year’s win total.
But the ceiling for this young but talented squad is unlimited, especially after adding a great group of rookies during the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Jets selected Garrett Wilson in the first round, and he is now second among their receivers in yards with 255.
They also took Jermaine Johnson II and Breece Hall in rounds one and two, respectively.
Before these prospects were called, Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner already heard his name when the Jets took him fourth overall, one pick behind fellow cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.
While he is yet to have an interception in the NFL, the Cincinnati alumnus has 15 tackles (ten solo) and five pass deflections through four games.
In Week 5, he will have a chance to prove he belongs in the pros if he shuts down All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
At least on paper, the rookie shows no fear in covering the league leader in receiving yards.
Sauce Gardner on matching up with Tyreek Hill's speed: "I went against guys that are fast, like Jameson Williams of Alabama. He was fast. I ain't saying he's Tyreek Hill fast, but I got certain things I like to do so I can handle guys like that." #Jets

ESPN NFL Nation writer Rich Cimini tweeted, “Sauce Gardner on matching up with Tyreek Hill’s speed: ‘I went against guys that are fast, like Jameson Williams of Alabama. He was fast. Tall Order For Gardner And The Jets
Gardner’s first career game against the Miami Dolphins will be his baptism of fire.
Covering Hill isn’t easy, especially after he has already tallied 31 receptions for 477 yards and two touchdowns.
But he isn’t the only problem for the Jets because the Dolphins also have Jaylen Waddle, who has 318 yards and three touchdowns.
Gardner may line up with any of these receivers at any point of the game.
Therefore, it’s time for him to prove that the Jets made the right decision on draft night by shutting down these talented wideouts.
