The New York Jets have a lot to do this offseason in order to become competitive again, and it looks like the top items on their to-do list is to hire a head coach and general manager.
Earlier this season, they fired head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas, and they have already started to interview candidates for both positions.
New York recently interviewed Mike Vrabel, the former Tennessee Titans head coach who could be the hottest candidate in the NFL right now, and one insider gave an optimistic report.
“Heard the Jets’ interview with Mike Vrabel went very well for all parties involved,” Connor Hughes of SNY wrote on X. “Vrabel will obviously talk to other teams, and the Jets to other candidates, but a good first step here. This isn’t one-way interest. Vrabel took interview for a reason.”

The Jets could greatly use a proven head coach who is relatively young and could be in charge for years to come, and the 49-year-old former linebacker seems to fit that description.
Though he didn’t get the Titans to the Super Bowl in six years as their head coach, he did maximize a roster that never had an elite quarterback and, other than A.J. Brown, didn’t have any real playmakers at wide receiver.
Vrabel leaned on running back Derrick Henry and got the Titans to the playoffs three times, and in 2019 guided them to the AFC Championship Game by engineering an upset of the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
The Jets have to figure out what they will do at quarterback, as Aaron Rodgers may want to keep playing, but it isn’t clear if they want him back.
They also have to figure out how to get the most out of a defense that clearly has talent but ranks 21st in points allowed.
