One of the great things about the NFL Draft that makes it such an annual landmark sports event is the fact that stars can be found anywhere, even toward the end.
Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers was the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, and, of course, Tom Brady, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, was a sixth-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.
The New York Jets have named their team MVP for this season, and the award went to Jamien Sherwood, who was a fifth-round pick (No. 146 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The linebacker shared his gratitude while giving a shout-out to his teammates.
“Through all the adversity this year more than blessed to have shared the field with those men. I appreciate each one of them for this award. My brothers for life,” Sherwood wrote on X.

Curtis Martin, the man whom the Jets’ MVP award is named after, was a Hall of Fame-bound running back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, one of the few eras in which they were competitive and respectable.
The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, which is the longest current drought in the NFL, but Sherwood is a young player they can build around moving forward.
The 24-year-old emerged in his first year as a full-time starter, and through 16 games has registered 152 total tackles (95 solo), with 2.0 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
He is one of a number of stars New York has on defense who could help them return to the playoffs sooner rather than later if they can figure out the issues that are currently afflicting them.
