The New York Jets went into the 2024-25 NFL season with Super Bowl aspirations now that Aaron Rodgers had fully recovered from the torn Achilles he suffered in his debut in 2023, but the team flopped to a 5-12 record and is now once again forced to deal with an uncertain future.
According to reports, Rodgers’s deal, which has a $23.5 million cap hit, has one year left, but the team has already decided on his future.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared on X that the Jets and Rodgers are headed for a split, while his favorite target, wide receiver Davante Adams, could be on the move too and wind up reuniting with Rodgers elsewhere.
With the #Jets and QB Aaron Rodgers headed for a split, sources say, don’t be surprised if they move on from Davante Adams (with his huge cap number), too. They could reunite elsewhere.

Rodgers has commented this offseason that he is aware that a split is possible, but he has remained steadfast that he has enjoyed his time with the Jets and would love to return if he decides to continue playing football.
The future Hall-of-Famer threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns this past season with 11 interceptions while also moving past 500 career passing touchdowns in Week 18 against the Miami Dolphins.
At 41 years old, Rodgers proved that while he might not be the athlete he once was, he can still get it done, and he’ll have a starting role somewhere if he wants it.
Whether that’s with the Jets or not remains to be seen, though signs are pointing towards Rodgers landing elsewhere.
If Rodgers does leave New York, he’ll fill a massive quarterback void for the Jets, who don’t have a clear path toward another franchise quarterback.
