The New York Jets are one of a handful of NFL teams looking for a new head coach, and the decision they make will shape their direction for the next several years.
Despite possessing plenty of talent, the Jets have won just 12 games over the past two seasons, and they still hold the league’s longest playoff drought, as they haven’t been to the postseason since the 2010 season.
They reportedly have interviewed a former quarterback who is part of that dubious streak, having played for them during the 2017 and 2018 campaigns.
“We have completed an interview with Josh McCown for our head coach position,” the Jets wrote on X.

McCown played 16 seasons in the NFL, and though he was primarily a backup, he ended his career with 17,731 passing yards and 98 passing touchdowns.
After his final game, which took place in 2019 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, he became the Carolina Panthers’ quarterbacks coach in 2023, which allowed him to work with Bryce Young, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft that year.
This season, he has been the quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings, where he oversaw a tremendous year by Sam Darnold, the former Jets QB who had previously been dismissed as a bust.
As far as who will play QB for the Jets moving forward, it is unknown if that will be Aaron Rodgers, who has had two disappointing years in New York.
He had his moments this season after missing almost all of last year with a torn Achilles, but he may not be part of their plans for the future.
