There are several teams across the NFL that are looking to hire a new head coach, but the New York Jets also need to hire a new general manager.
They fired Robert Saleh, who had been their head coach since 2021, in October, and shortly after, they axed Joe Douglas, who had been their general manager since 2019.
With GM candidate Mike Borgonzi, who had been the Kansas City Chiefs’ assistant general manager, headed to the Tennessee Titans, the Jets may have had to alter their search a bit.
“The Jets will have a second round of interviews with their top GM candidates. That is the plan. Heard a lot of positive things about Borgonzi during many conversations in recent weeks with personnel [people], scouts and agents. That doesn’t mean the Jets don’t have other good candidates on their list,” Rich Cimini of ESPN wrote on X.

Over the past couple of years, New York has possessed talent on both sides of the football, but it has won a total of just 12 games, and the 2023 trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers looks like a mistake.
It is unclear if Rodgers will be back with the Jets next season, but other than the quarterback position, they still have plenty of potential, especially on defense.
The right head coach and general manager combination may be able to make the Jets into a competitive team and end the string of futility the franchise has long been mired in.
It hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season, and overall, it has been an NFL laughingstock for most of the last half-century.
Its one moment of glory came when Joe Namath led it to a win in Super Bowl III, but since then, it has been tough sledding.
