As the start of the 2023 NFL season draws near, the hype surrounding the new-look New York Jets seems only to be getting louder and louder, with the players starting to buy in and embrace what could be a special season in the Big Apple.
Last season, the Jets made a lot of noise due to the emergence of two rookies, with Garrett Wilson being a breakout star at the wide receiver position and Sauce Gardner making a case as arguably the best cornerback in the game fresh out of college.
Along with Gardner turning a lot of heads during the 2022 campaign, the Jets defense emerged as one of the best in the league, which has seemingly carried over to this season.
Apparently, cornerback D.J. Reed is so confident in the Jets defense right now that he thinks it could be historically good and in the same breath as the 1985 Chicago Bears and the Seahawks Seahawks’ Legion of Boom, via Dov Kleiman.
According to #Jets CB D.J. Reed, the 2023 Jets defense could be the 'Best defense in the NFL' historically, via ESPN.
Reed compares them to the 1985 #Bears or the 2010s #Seahakws Legion of Boom.

Even though the Jets defense may be elite in 2023, that is a bold statement to make, especially when bringing up the ’85 Bears, which could be the best defense the league has ever seen.
Reed may have put some added pressure on the team that has enough of it to begin with, and that can sometimes result in disaster, especially in a market like New York that is just waiting for the team to fail.
It’ll be interesting to see if this team can live up to the hype in 2023 and whether New York can power through and win it all.
