Nearly everyone was impressed by Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday with his sensational buzzer-beater that defeated the Denver Nuggets.
And some people were beyond impressed.
Speaking on Monday’s “Get Up,” Jay Williams called Irving “the most skilled player in the history of basketball.”
That is obviously a huge statement from Williams and one that is sure to draw controversy.
But he said that the final shot from Irving shows the sort of skills, knowledge, and ability that the star guard has.

He said that NBA fans never see the sort of shot that Irving put up in the final seconds of Sunday’s game.
It really was something special to behold because of the defensive pressure that was put on him, the difficulty of the attempt, and the way that he used his non-dominant hand to put it up.
For a number of reasons, it was the most amazing play of the day.
It was only possible because of Irving’s natural talent but also because of the confidence he has in himself.
Over the years, Irving has given himself and his fans many reasons to believe in him.
While many people were shocked by the buzzer-beater, others weren’t because they expect the very best from Irving, even against tough odds.
The victory was important for a number of reasons: it helped the Mavericks climb higher in the standings and it also showed that they could beat the Nuggets, which is no small feat.
It was also noteworthy because it allowed someone other than Luka Doncic to score the most pivotal shot of the game, showing the growing depth of the team.
People will debate just how skilled Iriving is when compared to the rest of NBA history but no one can deny just how amazing this shot was.
