This year’s NFL rookie class features a few promising wide receivers, including Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals, Malik Nabers of the New York Giants and the Chicago Bears’ Rome Odunze.
Of the three, the one who was considered the best and thought to have the most potential is Harrison, who is the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.
But his play has been somewhat spotty this season, and former Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said that he’s disappointed in the rookie because of dropped passes and a lack of fundamentals.
“I’ve seen a lot of drops, a lot of leaking out of his routes, no suddenness to his in and out of cuts… I think he’s got a long way to go… quite honestly I’ve just been disappointed,” Gruden said.

Through 15 games, the younger Harrison has logged 51 catches for 726 yards and seven touchdowns.
At 6-foot-3 and 209 pounds, he certainly seems to have the physical tools to become a bona fide star, and he obviously had stardom in his blood, as his father is considered one of the better wide receivers in football history.
But his catch percentage this season is a very poor 51.0 percent and he has dropped four passes.
With a 7-8 record, the Cardinals have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, and they will go back to the drawing board this offseason and look to add talent to their roster in an attempt to make the playoffs for just the second time since 2015.
It is helpful to remember that even some of the biggest legends of the game struggled as rookies, including even Jerry Rice, the greatest wide receiver ever, who dropped many passes as a first-year player in 1985.
