Max Christie’s life dramatically changed last season when he was part of the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
In the blink of an eye, Christie became a member of a Dallas Mavericks team that had no idea what was ahead.
They wanted a lot from him, and they got it.
This season, he could have a breakout season.
Speaking to Landon Thomas and the press, head coach Jason Kidd commented on the growth he has seen from Christie.
“Confidence,” Kidd said. “We can talk about the ball handling, we can talk about the shooting but you can see his confidence is at a very high level.”
I asked Jason Kidd how what area of Max Christie’s game has he seen grow since his arrival to Dallas.

During the first half of last season, Christie produced 8.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for the Lakers.
Then, with the Mavericks, he put up 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
The Doncic trade was obviously centered around Anthony Davis, and most people viewed Christie as just collateral to sweeten the pot.
But he is making the most of it and trying to prove what he can bring to the court.
He showed flashes of great promise while playing with the Lakers, but he might do even more in Dallas.
This is a team that needs help in the backcourt, especially since Kyrie Irving is out.
Plus, they want someone young and healthy like Christie since injury problems consistently plague them.
The fact that his confidence is growing is great news, because Kidd will notice that and reward him with more minutes and, therefore, more chances to shine.
He has already shown a sizeable improvement since coming to Dallas, and Christie could show even more in 2025-26.
If he does, he might enjoy a place in the starting lineup.
