The Detroit Pistons evened the series against the New York Knicks the other night, and Jalen Brunson knows what his team did wrong.
Talking with the TNT crew, via ESPN, Brunson spoke about what has gone wrong against the Pistons and what the Knicks can do better moving forward.
“I think they’ve gotten the better of us starting the game in Games 1 and 2, and we have had to climb back in both games,” Brunson said. “We got to start off well. They are playing way too well for us to start off slow.”
The Knicks started the series right, earning a 123-112 victory out of the gate, even though the Pistons put up quite a fight.
But Detroit got their revenge days later with their 100-94 victory.
Both of these games were held at Madison Square Garden, and Knicks fans were hoping to see their team perform well.
To Brunson’s point, the team often seemed slower than the Pistons and out of sync.
That was definitely true in Game 2, when the Pistons were leading with their tempo and energy.
The Knicks had a hard time keeping up with them, and it became clear that the Pistons had the upper hand.
Now the series is moving to Detroit, and the Knicks are desperate to get back on track.
The Pistons have figured out ways to get past the Knicks, and New York wants to improve their game plan so they can steal a game or two on the road.
Brunson knows that success depends on his team starting off strong and fast and then keeping that same energy for all four quarters.
But just because he knows what his team must do doesn’t mean they’ll get it done.
