Basketball fans have always known that Jalen Brunson is clutch, but the NBA just officially recognized that.
On Wednesday night, the New York Knicks star was named the Clutch Player of the Year.
Following that announcement, Brunson spoke about how he had to learn to play like this.
“I think some people are born into it,” Brunson told TNT’s “Inside the NBA” on Wednesday night about being clutch. “I think I had to learn back in high school, and I’ve gotten better and better at each stage, and here we are.”
He stated that some players are naturally gifted the ability to be clutch, but he had to fight to be like this.
But he admitted that he has improved and believes he has something special to give his team.
Throughout the 2024-25 season, Brunson has repeatedly done incredibly well during the final moments of games.
According to ESPN, he led the league with 5.6 points per game during the “clutch” period of games.
He earned more votes than Nikola Jokic and Anthony Edwards.
New York fans are hoping they see more clutch plays from Brunson soon because the Knicks are currently in a heated battle with the Indiana Pacers.
Both teams have won a game in the series, and Brunson was a huge part of their victory, leading them on their 21-0 fourth-quarter run.
This season, Brunson averaged 26.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 7.3 assists on 48.8 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from the three-point line.
Since coming to New York, he has become the face of the franchise and one of the most beloved Knicks stars in recent memory.
He said he had to learn to be this good, but Knicks fans are convinced it’s just who Brunson is.
