Before trade rumors recently surfaced that the Miami Heat were open to trading superstar Jimmy Butler and that the veteran was open to being traded to a handful of preferred destinations, the franchise seemed adamant about not moving its best player.
Things have changed in Miami, as Butler appears to be the biggest name on the trade market right now and potentially playing for a new team before the NBA trade deadline on February 6.
Although this may ultimately end up being nothing but a lot of noise around the league, which always happens in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline in February, Butler’s name seems like it will continue to be floated out there.
Shams Charania of ESPN explains why things have changed in Miami regarding Butler’s future with the Heat via NBA on ESPN.
“If you’re the Heat, really in the middle of the pack, the last couple years in the standings, in the Play-In Tournament race, they have to see what’s out there, and Jimmy Butler, likewise he’s entering the last year of his deal potentially if he opts out what happens there with his options,” Charania said.

As of right now, the potential trade destinations seem to be the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns, and it remains to be seen which one of these teams, if any, can put together a desirable trade package to bring in the veteran star.
With only a few weeks left until the buzzer sounds on the trade deadline, the rumors will likely intensify from here on out.
