It’s the dawn of a new era for the Atlanta Falcons.
Kirk Cousins’ days in charge of the offense were rather short-lived.
He didn’t even finish a full season as their starting quarterback, and given his contract situation, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep him there.
However, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk claims it’s still not a given that he will stay in the league.
Per the insider, Cousins will take one month away from football after the season.

He’s reportedly looking forward to getting a ‘physical and mental’ reset before figuring out what to do with this future.
Of course, he’s no spring chicken, so it would make sense for him to consider calling it a career.
Then again, that doesn’t sound likely at all.
The Falcons need to release him before March 17, as his $10 million roster bonus would be guaranteed by then.
The team will essentially pay for the bulk of his salary, giving him an opportunity to sign with any other franchise on a team-friendly deal.
It’s hard to envision Cousins walking away, not to mention a chance to prove that he’s still got it.
The Falcons’ decision to sign him made sense at the time, but drafting Michael Penix Jr. and not running an offense suited for his style of play didn’t.
Now, they’re reaping what they sowed, and while Cousins has some things to figure out, he shouldn’t find much trouble getting a new contract somewhere else in the offseason.
