The Las Vegas Raiders began the offseason by placing the franchise tag on Josh Jacobs.
While they had an opportunity to sign him to a contract extension, the team failed to do so by the deadline.
After the Raiders chose not to extend Jacobs, many fans wondered what a potential contract could have looked like.
Mike Garafolo revealed what he believes the Raiders offered in a recent segment of the Rich Eisen Show.
“My understanding, Josh Jacobs got an offer from the Raiders around $12 million per year,” Garafolo said.
He also revealed that Jacobs and Saquon Barkley were in talks on the final day for an extension.
While it is unknown whether the Raiders offered this to Jacobs, the numbers Garafolo provided align with what Barkley received from the Giants.
Barkley didn’t get an extension, per se, but he did receive a one-year contract from the New York Giants.
This isn’t necessarily what Barkley was looking for, as reports indicated that he was looking for a multi-year contract.
At the time of publication, Jacobs hasn’t received a one-year offer from the Raiders, leaving him in limbo ahead of the 2023 season.
Barkley and Jacobs, along with several top backs in the league, recently were on a video call, discussing the current state of the position.
If this position continues to be devalued across the league, conversations similar to this will continue.
The league’s best backs haven’t been given contract extensions, leaving the rest to wonder what will happen to them moving forward.
