The NBA world was rocked on Thursday night when Jimmy Butler officially requested a trade from the Miami Heat.
Many people felt this was coming but it was still a pivotal moment for the star player and the franchise.
Apparently, things haven’t been great in Miami for some time, but what led to the breakdown between Butler and the Heat?
According to Evan Sidery, one reason why Butler wants out is that he’s upset about his usage in Erik Spoelstra’s system.
Butler is currently carrying his lowest usage rate since 2013-14 at 21.2 percent.

Butler isn’t playing the way he wants to, or as much as he wants to.
He referenced this during his viral press conference on Thursday night, saying he wants to find joy in playing basketball again and doubts he can do that in Miami.
Butler has clearly made up his mind and doesn’t want to be with the Heat any longer.
However, just because he wishes to leave doesn’t mean he will.
The Heat could make his life difficult and force him to stick around.
They are not going to move on any deal unless it’s one they are very happy with and Pat Riley is well-known for his ability to get what he wants out of other teams.
The Heat will likely cut ties with Butler, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be soon.
Will Butler have more luck with a different team and return to the sort of role he wants?
Any team that acquires him will have to consider how unhappy he is in Miami right now and do what they must to avoid a similar outcome.
