The Charlotte Hornets have seemingly been in a perpetual mode of rebuilding, and 2023 has been no exception.
Last season, they finished with a 27-55 record, which was the third-worst record in the NBA, but they lost out on the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama when they got only the No. 2 pick in the draft lottery.
They used that pick on Brandon Miller, an intriguing 6-foot-9 wing who comes with his own controversy surrounding him.
The Hornets also had another controversial player in big man Kai Jones on their roster, but per Shams Charania, they have now waived him.

Jones was a first-round draft pick by the New York Knicks in 2021, and he was then traded to Charlotte.
In two NBA seasons, he hasn’t amounted to much, as he has mustered only 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.1 minutes a game, and he spent some time with the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets’ G-League affiliate.
A couple of weeks ago, Jones started posting a series of erratic tweets in which, among other things, he criticized teammates and repeatedly referred to himself as the “GOAT” (greatest of all time).
He then publicly asked to be traded on Monday through a Twitter post.
The Hornets haven’t made the playoffs since the 2015-16 season, and the current iteration of the franchise has never won a postseason series.
The last time the Hornets got past the first round of the playoffs was back in 2002 when they existed as the franchise that is now the New Orleans Pelicans.
