The NFL coaching carousel continues to spin as the Chicago Bears secured Ben Johnson as their new head coach.
Hot on their heels, the New York Jets are making moves of their own, zeroing in on Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their top candidate for their head coaching position.
The Jets aren’t taking any chances with Glenn, holding a crucial second interview after Detroit’s elimination from the playoffs.
Glenn, who previously connected with the Jets virtually, could find himself leading the team very soon, with all signs pointing toward an agreement.
“They certainly do want him to accept the offer that they ultimately are going to hand him, and so it’s just a matter of if he does, right?” Jonathan Jones of NFL on CBS said. “I don’t know what the state laws in New Jersey are surrounding kidnapping. I mean, they cannot keep him in the building if he wants to leave. But certainly, the expectation around the league has been that there will be an offer that ultimately he will not refuse, that he will sign.”

Glenn, in fact, did leave without an agreement in place, but reports say that does not mean there will not be one eventually.
His connection to the Jets runs deep — they selected him in the 1994 NFL Draft — and the tie could play a pivotal role in his decision.
Despite the Lions’ defensive struggles late this season, Glenn has emerged as one of the most sought-after candidates in this coaching cycle, with the Jets particularly drawn to his leadership qualities.
The search doesn’t exist in isolation, as the Jets are also eyeing Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark, who shares history with Glenn from their Detroit days, to become their new GM.
Though Glenn appears to be the Jets’ frontrunner, the New Orleans Saints are waiting in the wings, hoping for their shot at an in-person meeting.
