One of the most unique things about MLB is its free agency.
No other league has star players hit the open market like MLB.
Just this offseason we saw the best player in the sport, Shohei Ohtani, get a 10-year, $700 million deal.
The amount of money given out on the open market is astronomical.
While we may never see another contract like the one Ohtani received, he will not be the last star player to hit free agency.
The next man up appears to be New York Yankees star Juan Soto.
Soto has yet to appear in a regular-season game with the Yankees but people are already talking about where he could sign next offseason.
He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, and a different New York team has their sights set on signing him.
According to Jon Heyman, via B/R Walkoff, the noise around the Mets’ interest in signing Soto next offseason is “getting louder.”

Outside of Ohtani, Soto will most likely sign the largest contract in baseball.
He is one of the most polished hitters in baseball who does not have a weakness.
The only teams that are going to be able to sign him are the ones who consistently have a massive payroll.
The Mets fit into that criteria.
But, the Mets will not be the only team coming after Soto.
You can bet the Yankees will want to extend him.
Also, you can never count out the Los Angeles Dodgers whenever a star player hits the open market.
It is going to be very interesting to see where Soto ends up next offseason.
