The New England Patriots were never expected to be among the best teams in the league this season.
They have some glaring needs all over the roster, especially on offense.
However, one always expects improvement regarding first-time coaches and quarterbacks.
That has been the case with Drake Maye, who’s shown glimpses of greatness in his rookie season.
That cannot be said of Jerod Mayo.
That’s why Albert Breer believes he could be on the hot seat (via Savage Sports and NBC Sports Patriots).
Mayo’s work on the field has left plenty to be desired.
However, Breer claims that his lack of accountability and the way he seemingly threw offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt under the bus might rub his players the wrong way:
“Correct me if I’m wrong guys, but that felt like he was throwing Alex Van Pelt under the bus…I think that’s a really hard thing to come back from. The players see that, they see a lack of accountability…how are you gonna get coaches here then? They’re all gonna think that Jerod Mayo is on the hot seat in 2025,” he said.

A recent report stated that team owner Robert Kraft was still confident in Mayo’s ability to lead the team in the future.
Then again, there’s only so much anybody can do when he’s not in control of the locker room.
The players want to see accountability, especially from someone who was also a player.
Mayo made several questionable statements during his rookie season, backpedaling shortly after most of them.
Whether the team will decide to part ways with him after this season remains to be seen.
There’s still a chance that he will learn from his mistakes.
However, the public’s opinion of how he’s handled himself and the team isn’t exactly positive.
