The Houston Rockets just had a season they should be very proud of, even though they didn’t go as far as they wanted in the playoffs.
But there are still many questions about what’s next for this young team.
One of the questions is about Fred VanVleet, the team’s proven floor general who has contract uncertainties floating around him.
Speaking to the press, head coach Ime Udoka said he wants VanVleet to stay and believes the star wishes to remain in Houston.
“I think both sides want to be here and want him here,” Udoka said. “From day one, as I’ve talked about the importance of him at the point guard position, leading us in a lot of ways. He’s a huge part of our growth, in general. Love everything he’s done. Perfect combo of on and off ball for our guards and young guys to grow. I’d love to have him back, and I think the feeling’s mutual,” Udoka said, per Michael Scotto.

Udoka said VanVleet has been a huge part of the team’s growth over the last few years, and that is certainly true.
Even though it was technically a down year for VanVleet, he is still proving his worth to the Houston team.
He has worked through injuries and shown his skills and leadership abilities, too.
His contract with the Rockets has a team option for $44.9 million for next season
That means the Rockets could pick up his option, or they could rework a new contract with him that gives them a more comfortable annual price.
VanVleet said he has long-term plans with the Rockets and wants to stick around in Houston, and it sounds like the front office isn’t looking to part ways with him either.
Therefore, fans are expecting to hear good news about this situation in the summer.
