It’s been three seasons since the San Antonio Spurs had a winning season.
For the last few years, the team has struggled to get close to .500 and hasn’t had much of an impact on the rest of the Western Conference.
But the team would be doing far worse if it wasn’t for head coach Gregg Popovich, who is still the heart and soul of the team.
Popovich is known for his understanding of the game, his ability to draw the best out of young players, and his prickly personality.

That personality and his biting sense of humor were on display the other day when he opened up about his desire to keep coaching.
When asked what motivated him year after year, Popovich was very clear: “My paycheck.”
That’s a refreshingly honest take from one of the greatest coaches of all time.
However, you can assume that there is more that keeps him coming back again and again.
Popovich’s Power
There is no doubt that Popovich is easily one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time.
He has coached for 27 years and has a record of 1344-701.
Under his leadership, the Spurs have won five Finals and were a mainstay in the playoffs for years.
True, they’ve fallen on hard times now but no team can stay incredible forever.
There will be a time when the Spurs sit towards the top of the standings again but it might be after Popovich retires.
While his paychecks are obviously very good, there is no question that he is coming to the end of his career and it wouldn’t be surprising if we are about to see the last season of Popovich in the NBA.
