Followers of the San Antonio Spurs should not expect a lot of great things from their team this year.
This isn’t a surprise to anyone paying attention because the crew doesn’t have a whole lot of great assets right now.
That is especially true since the team recently traded away Dejounte Murray, who was the centerpiece of the squad.
No one really thinks the team will make the Finals, that’s for sure.
In fact, most agree they won’t even make the playoffs.
Even head coach Gregg Popovich isn’t trying to trick people into expecting great things either.
“I probably shouldn’t say this,” Gregg Popovich says.
He leans into the microphone.
“Nobody here…”
Pause.
“…should go to Vegas and bet on this team to win the championship.”

Speaking at the team’s press day, Popovich was quite honest about their chances.
“Nobody here should go to Vegas and bet on this team to win the championship,” Popovich said.
The man is just being honest!
Yet, is there any chance the team could over-perform and impress?
Struggling Spurs
The Spurs have one of the best NBA coaches of all time but they simply do not have the experienced talent needed to make it to the postseason.
Yes, they could be capable of that within a few seasons but it won’t be this one.
However, they could perhaps impress and make some noise in the West and be interesting and fun, they just won’t win many games.
However, that doesn’t mean the future won’t be bright: remember that the team sat towards the bottom of the league back in the 90s and that led to them drafting Tim Duncan.
Duncan came along and changed the team’s fate rather quickly.
So, fans of the team need to sit through a few rough seasons but they should always remember that the team was once the best in the NBA and could be again someday.
