The New York Mets had high expectations coming into the 2022 regular season.

After all, they had Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer at the top of their rotation and had made several additional signings to beef up their roster and prepare them for a deep run into October.

Unfortunately, both deGrom and Scherzer are out nursing injuries, but that has not stopped the Metropolitans from dominating everybody in the National League.

MLB Cut4 tweeted a graphic of Pete Alonso and Eduardo Escobar with their arms around each other looking up at the standings in the National League East, which show the Mets in first place and with the best record in the NL.

Numbers Do Speak For Themselves

This team is working through a ton of adversity while they continue to win games.

Having their two aces down has to be a little discouraging, but they have to encouraged by the way they have been playing this season, especially in those two guys’ absence.

This is a good team that is proving that even with a few guys down, they can keep winning.

That “next man up” mentality has paid dividends for New York.

This team appears to be for real.

It’s been a long time since the Mets were truly a dominant team.

They last reached the postseason in 2016.

But now they appear to have brushed aside all of the heartache from the past several years, especially 2021, where they were in first place in the NL East as late as August before collapsing and finishing below the .500 mark at 77-85.

Owner Steve Cohen has put together a clear contender with his sights being set on bringing Mets fans their first title since 1986.
