After the Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson in the offseason, it appeared they were entering rebuild mode.
But, Geno Smith had other ideas for the franchise.
The 31-year-old quarterback took over as the starter this year and has been nothing short of awesome through four weeks.
Smith has been a journeyman QB for most of his career.
In his nine NFL seasons, he has played for the Jets, Giants, Chargers, and now Seahawks.
It appears he has found a home in Seattle after the start of this season.
Smith has the Seahawks sitting at 2-2 and his statistics are the best of his career.
All things considered, Smith is outperforming Wilson through the first month of the year.
The former first-round pick is leading the NFL in completion percentage at 77.3%.
Also, he has six touchdowns to two interceptions this year.
Taking care of the ball has been an issue for Smith throughout his career, but not this year.
He is coming off an awesome performance where he led the Seahawks to a 48-45 win over the Lions.
Smith threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for 49 yards and one score.
That performance helped him win NFC player of the week.
While the production of Smith is surprising to many, he has always remained confident in his abilities.
Question: You’re in the midst of sumn unprecedented: backup for 7 years now near top league in passer rating & just won POW…
Geno: “You surprised by that?”
Reply: If you’d told me that before the season, I’d been a bit surprised
Geno: “That’s cuz you never watched me throw.” pic.twitter.com/DeWzzuhZQh

Smith is only on a one-year contract in Seattle, he may be making himself a nice chunk of change this season.
If not in Seattle, there will be some team willing to pay him good money to be their QB if this play keeps up.
The Seahawks are still playing in one of the toughest divisions in football.
So being able to compete for a full season in the NFC West would be a testament to the play of their QB.
Seattle may find themselves in plenty of shootouts this year as their defense has struggled to stop teams.
They are giving up 28.8 points per game, and that is putting plenty of pressure on their offense.
Tough Times Ahead?
Despite the 2-2 start, it feels like the NFL world is waiting for the magic to wear off of Smith.
With the upcoming schedule for the Seahawks, the veteran QB will be tested.
The Seahawks are in New Orleans in Week 5, then play the Cardinals and Chargers in Weeks 6-7.
All three of those games will have Seattle as the underdogs.
The running game for the Seahawks has helped open things up for the passing offense.
Rashad Penny tore up the Lions’ defense in Week 4, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season Penny is 12th in the NFL in yards and averaging 6.0 yards per carry.
The assets used to help bolster their offensive line are paying off.
It is hard for Seahawks fans to be mad at what Smith is doing especially watching the Wilson-led Broncos each week.

Denver has one of the worst offenses in football and Wilson has been abysmal this year.
Seattle picked up a large sum of draft capital and seemingly has the better QB at least for the 2022 season.
The Geno Smith-led Seahawks are one of the best stories in the NFL.
It will be fun to see how far the veteran QB can lead this team.
