The New Orleans Saints barely missed last season’s playoffs with a 9-8 record.
They had a 5-2 mark until Jameis Winston had an abrupt end to his campaign due to an ACL injury.
After that, the team lost five straight games.
They won four of their last five games but it was too late to grab a postseason slot.
More concerns brewed in their camp after longtime head coach Sean Payton stepped down from the position.
Payton’s departure prompted the Saints to promote Dennis Allen from defensive coordinator to head coach.
Yet since Allen took over, the Saints have been struck with good fortune.
That’s why former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III sees them as a team to be reckoned with in 2022.
Michael Thomas’ return is the X FACTOR for the @Saints offense. Last time the 2x All Pro and 2x NFL Leader in receptions played significant time was in 2019 and he was the BEST WR IN FOOTBALL. Thomas opening the middle of the field for Jarvis and Olave will help the Saints EAT Ws

Griffin tweeted, “Michael Thomas’ return is the X FACTOR for the @Saints offense. Last time the 2x All Pro and 2x NFL Leader in receptions played significant time was in 2019 and he was the BEST WR IN FOOTBALL. Thomas opening the middle of the field for Jarvis and Olave will help the Saints EAT Ws.”
In 2019, Thomas was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year while earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections.
He finished that season with 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns.
His return got delayed when he initially thought that his ankle injury need not undergo surgery to heal.
Therefore, the timing of the operation was too late.
A Potent Receiving Trio For New Orleans
Thomas returns to his role as the team’s deep threat.
The Saints hope that his ankle will work as it did before the surgery.
As he attracts attention from defenders, Jarvis Landry and Chris Olave can get favorable coverages.
Landry also has a lot to prove after a dismal season with the Cleveland Browns which should motivate him to do well.
Finally, New Orleans is rooting for Olave’s emergence as a reliable option.
