The New England Patriots were always expected to get a new quarterback, but today’s move now makes it official.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’ve decided to trade Mac Jones back home.
The former first-round pick will head to the Jacksonville Jaguars in return for a sixth-round selection, hoping to get his career back on track.
Trade: Patriots are finalizing a deal to send QB Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, sources tell ESPN. The trade cannot be processed until the new league year begins Wednesday and he passes a physical. The two sides were discussing a 6th-round pick, per sources.

Needless to say, this was a tough break for a once-promising prospect, who’s now going to continue his career as a backup.
Of course, the fans had plenty to say about this on social media, and they flooded Twitter with multiple reactions.
Wow Trevor Lawrence is getting benched that’s crazy

But why? This doesn’t make sense for Jones or the Jags? lol

Mac Jones looked solid in the first year of his career.
He lost his way as soon as Josh McDaniels left town to become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, and he could never get back on track.
Reports state that he lost the Patriots’ locker room as well, and there’s simply no way to come back from that as a young quarterback.
Of course, backing up Trevor Lawrence isn’t exactly an ideal situation, as the chances of playing will be quite slim.
Even so, he’ll be on Doug Pederson’s watch, and that could do wonders for him as a young quarterback still learning the ropes of the game and developing.
Perhaps all he needs is a change of scenery and a season working behind a starting quarterback, and he might get another opportunity to be the main guy at some point in the near future.
