There seems to be two lines of thought when it comes to Bronny James’ NBA career.
On the one hand, it’s not fair to judge him as a star prospect, as he was the No. 55 pick.
On the other hand, he got a much better contract than the average second-rounder — let alone a No. 55 pick — and with that, criticism and judgment will always be a part of the equation.
Bronny didn’t look ready in the Summer League, and he hasn’t gotten much better so far.
His preseason totals left plenty to be desired, even for a second-rounder.
As pointed out by StatMamba on X, Bronny capped off the preseason with a grand total of 25 points.
Bronny James preseason totals:
25 PTS
10 REB
5 BLK
3 STL pic.twitter.com/VZ0IWLpUw9— StatMamba (@StatMamba) October 19, 2024
He added ten boards, five blocks, and three steals, and he struggled mightily with his shot.
Needless to say, that led to plenty of mockery and criticism on social media.
4 game totals?
Not great.

It is more fun to look at the per game averages:
4.2 PTS
1.7 REB
0.8 BLK
0.5 STL— Brian (@UK_PELICAN) October 19, 2024
That's like 1 Wemby stat line

To be fair, Bronny cannot be measured as a star prospect, nor can he even be compared to his father, as he is clearly not on that level.
Then again, nepotism is never good, and his camp could’ve handled things a little better with him.
It always seemed like he would’ve benefitted from staying in college for another year, and it seems like James’ desire and determination to play with his son led to this rash decision.
Hopefully, the Lakers will be able to develop him and turn him into a serviceable NBA player, but it might be a very long while before that happens.
