It’s rare for any position other than quarterback to win an NFL MVP award, as Adrian Peterson, who won in 2012, is the only non-QB to win the award since LaDainian Tomlinson, who won in 2006.
Even Derrick Henry didn’t crack the top 3 for MVP voting when he ran for over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2020, but Hall-of-Fame running back Eric Dickerson will bat for his fellow RBs and support a current one for MVP.
Philadelphia Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks shared a clip of Dickerson recently supporting Eagles’ RB Saquon Barkley for MVP in an appearance on “94 WIP,” saying, “It’s almost unfair. A back would almost have to have 2,800 yards and win the Super Bowl to be an MVP in today’s league, which is all about the passing game.”
Eric Dickerson says he is supporting Saquon Barkley as he chases the MVP
“Most definitely” #BacksForBarkley

He said it was ridiculous when people started saying it’s not important to have a good running back in today’s game.
Barkley, Henry, and fellow veteran RB Josh Jacobs are pushing back on that by currently sitting as the top three RBs in the league in terms of rushing yards.
They also all left their former teams to sign big deals in free agency this past offseason.
Dickerson said he is “most definitely” supporting Barkley for MVP and also touched on how he didn’t win MVP when he set the rushing record in 1984 with 2,105 yards because it was the same year Dan Marino broke all the passing records.
Barkley has 1,499 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground so far, and he has a shot at the rushing record at this current pace.
