Dylan Cease Continues To Pace MLB After Glaring Snub

Despite an All-Star Game snub, Chicago White Sox starter Dylan Cease doesn’t appear to be affected in the slightest.

On Sunday, he took the mound for the ChiSox against their AL Central rivals, the Cleveland Guardians.

Cease delivered a much-needed quality start for the White Sox, throwing six scoreless innings as the Sox managed to salvage a series split against Cleveland.

Cease improved his record to 10-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.03, bolstering his case for the American League Cy Young Award.

In fact, Cease made a little history with yesterday’s start, tying a record Bob Gibson set in 1968 with 11 consecutive starts of one earned run or less.

MLB insider Jason Catania tweeted a list of pitchers who had had the most consecutive starts of one run or less.

Needless to say, Cease found himself in some legendary company.

Most consecutive outings of 1 ER or fewer while throwing at least 4 IP (AL/NL history)

Dylan Cease: 11 in 2022*
Bob Gibson: 11 in 1968
Jacob deGrom: 10 in 2021
Jake Arrieta: 10 in 2015-16
Christy Mathewson: 10 in 1901

*Including today.

Cease Ties Gibson For History

You can forget about the All-Star snub.

Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays may be leading the AL Cy Young Award race, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see Cease put up a fight for the award.

He certainly dominated yesterday against a Guardians lineup that features Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, and Josh Naylor, among others, out-dueling Cleveland’s ace Shane Bieber, who matched Cease for six innings but allowed six runs.

It’s clear that the All-Star Game snub means nothing to Cease right now.

All he cares about is winning a Cy Young and helping the White Sox gain a little traction in the postseason race, and he has a good shot and doing both as we now begin to focus on the stretch run of the 2022 season.

All-Star or not, Cease is a man on a mission right now.
